Late last year we were approached by Louize Clarke from Connect TVT asking to use Enswarm’s Decision application to judge 3 competitions during Thames Valley Tech Week. Although we had not aimed this tool at competition judging we realised that this would be a great utilisation of our technology and agreed.
After each of the three competitions we were able to refine the usability of the application and once Tech Week was finished we went in to a build phase to improve it as a judging tool. During the subsequent weeks we have developed a whole new competition judging interface and setup capability.
At the last event during Thames Valley Tech Week, Tom Fox from KPMG saw the Decision app and asked us if he could use it to judge two legs of the Best British Mobile Startup competition. This was a much higher profile competition with three of the winners securing the chance to showcase their start-ups at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
It was fantastic to see our hard work pay off with both of the KPMG competitions going really well. Following the London event, Patrick Imbach, Director of High Growth Technology Group at KPMG said:
“Using Enswarm’s Decision application gave structure to our decision making during our Best British Mobile Start up competition. It was really useful to have the combined data viewable as soon as pitching was over, it sped up the entire judging process and we really felt that we had made the correct choice.” - Patrick Imbach
So now with some great success under our belts we have taken things to the next level and partnered with the Business Rocks conference in Manchester who are hosting the Innov8 competition. On April 21st and 22nd this year, our Decision app will be used by 20 Judges to choose the best out of 100 start-ups for a £50000 prize.
But our application is already making a difference. Business Rocks have embraced the judging technology by setting up and publishing their judging criteria. This will ensure that early stage start-ups won’t be disadvantaged because the chosen criteria are all based on future potential, not existing achievements.
Founder of Business Rocks Jonathon Cadden commented:
“Business Rocks Innov8 competition is going to be different to other pitch battles, it won’t matter if you’ve been founded for 5 weeks or 5 years, it’s all down to your plan, your pitch and your people. Enswarm’s Decision app makes sure of this!” - Jonathon Cadden
Enswarm has used lessons learned from swarming behaviour in bees, ants, and other animals to create a much more efficient and less biased way of making decisions. We believe that Enswarm will be the subjective judging panel tool of the future.
Our Decision application allows judges to score competitors against multiple criteria and offers the opportunity to add explanations to each score. The scores are then automatically aggregated, allowing for much faster and more efficient decision-making when it comes to picking a winner.
Anyone can now visit our website at www.enswarm.com to use our Decision tool to judge their smaller competitions without charge, directly from the site for as long as they like. We are constantly adding new features and are looking forward to showing off our tech at Business Rocks next month!
